King George’s Cottage
Project Details
Extensive Alteration And Conversion.
Runner up for ‘Best New Luxury Property or Conversion’ at the 2018 Surrey Property Awards, King George’s Cottage is a stunning home located in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Originally a converted collection of four 18th Century farmworkers’ cottages, this property underwent significant expansion and modernisation to form a singular family home.
In sympathy with its location and history, this period property was rebuilt using local stone with traditional brick detailing.
A beautiful oak-framed orangery was also added, incorporating an ‘Encapsulated Glazing System’ to maximise the stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The garden was extensively remodelled, a new oak-framed double garage and wood store was erected, and the former stables was converted into an elegant loggia. Heating and hot water are both provided by a ground source heat pump system.

We heard about Compass Construction as they had recently completed a couple of new build houses in our road. They looked good and we managed to take a look round them so we knew the high quality Compass produced. They were also recommended to us by a neighbour as a good company to work with.

We chose Compass out of four bidders to build our new contemporary home. The quotes were similar but we chose them because we could tell we would get on well with Steve and Richard, the owners.

They are excellent with a very professional but easy to get on with attitude and an eye for detail and quality. We did an almost full knockdown then rebuild of a brick and stone house in the heart of the Surrey Hills and they did a beautiful job; on time, on budget and not one argument or problem that was not immediately sorted.
